Bathroom Reveal!!

Our bathroom is FINALLY finished!! It only took about 10 weeks but I'm oh so happy it's DONE! And we are renting our house for the Super Bowl now to help pay for some of this monster bath reno - so I'm CLEANING like a crazy lady!!

Anyway - here's our new and improved bathroom!

My favorite thing about the bathroom - the custom sink from an antique dresser with marble top. I LOVE the way it came out but lemme tell ya - it's kinda expensive to get something like this made but I was happy we went with something original over the standard pedestal sink route and have no regrets spending a little more to get this show stopper! Not to mention the storage it provides!

I even finally got the sconces up!! Now I know what you're thinking - where the F did those random sconces come from!? Aaahhhh well... since I had to have sconces with a deep chamber for wires to hang out (don't ask, it's something like that bc our house is so old the wires couldn't go into the wall) so I ran to Lowes to find anything that would work and be cheap so when I found my dream sconces I could switch them out.

So my ass scooped up the hideous $5.99 antiqued brass with frosted glass sconces!! Woot! Woot! but of course did not use the frosted glass part and bought these awesome Edison bulbs which I think totally updates these funky guys. I actually don't mind them at all! and for $15 a sconce how could you go wrong!? Yes, the bulbs cost more than the sconce ;)

I'm loving the contrast of the gilded, ornate mirror with the super contemporary sink.

Oh, and here's the original medicine cabinet that everyone wanted me to rip out but I think it's adorable! Not to mention functional!! I get very attached to original pieces of the house and can't bare to rip them out. I would like to strip the hardware though.

I need to paint the inside of the cabinet and I'll probably do something really fun & wacky on the back wall of the cabinet - it's too tempting not to!

And here's the shower - not the best pic but you get the idea.

And there ya have it!! The new bathroom! A wide angle lens would of helped a bit but I think you get the idea. Oh, and we have a toilet too... just didn't feel the need to take a picture of the toilet. Although I do love the handicap height! Perfect for us tall people! :)

Finally putting good use to our library ladders! (and don't judge me!)

Hello! First - the sconce debate continues... my dad poopooed my chrome choice because there isn't a "chamber" behind the light for the wires to go - something about the box in the wall isn't deep because of the plaster, lathe, etc. Whatevs.... I'm at the point of just getting something cheap cheap until I find something I love.

Aaaand now onto my plans for our closet - and don't judge me on how messy our dressing room is! I call it a dressing room because it's literally a room in our house. 12' x 12'. Which is ridiculous and drives me crazy that that much square footage is a closet!

Here's what it looks like this morning:

remember - no judging!

I'm just showing you the side where the fireplace is. My clothes are to the left, hubs to the right.

SO what we're going to do is get my brother to build in some floating shelves. Like 3" thick and then finally use our library ladders (we found in our attic) so we can access everything easy. With 12' ceilings we can have a lot of possible storage on that wall but can't access any of it at the moment! And leave a big open space still so the hanging clothes still fit. But get some nice baskets to store the stuff that doesn't need to be hung.

The goal is to get almost everything condensed to that one wall - then we can actually use the room!

Below are some inspiration pics of how I'd like the shelves to look:

This room below is about the size of our room and I'd love to have something like a sitting room in there!

photos from my pinterest page

Goal for this project is to complete it within a month. Let's see if that happens!! You hear that Big Bro!? Get yo ass over here and build my shelves!!!

Sconce debate... Wild, Tacky, Crazy? or Safe, Simple, Chrome?

Hiya! The bathroom sconce debate continues... what made matters worse is I found some pretty tacky Blackamoor reproduction sconces while shopping with Bossman for client projects. Oops! I have a habit of shopping for myself while with him shopping for the store & clients ;)

Anyhoot... some of you may not be familiar with the Blackamoor style. Here's a little info for ya:

Blackamoor is an old art style started in Italy. There was a resurgence of Blackamoors in chalk-ware in America during the 40s. These chalk-ware statues were usually in pairs as lamps of side-table statues for your bedroom or living room end-tables. Blackamoors can have controversial connotations because they are sometimes depicted in subservient or racially insensitive characterizations. However, more flattering images are also depicted in jewelry that are encrusted with exotic gems like diamonds, emeralds, rubies & enamels.

My camera phone wasn't working when I laid eyes on these tacky things so here's some google images to get your imagination going...

The ones I found look like a cross between maybe the one above and the ones below...

These are fun too.

And these guys above and below, I'm OBSESSED with!!! Too bad they run over 9 thousand dollars!! WTF!!?! (for you locals - don't they look like little king cake babies!?)

And this is where they'll be going:

OR do I go the safe route and do the standard, modern chrome sconce?

Complete OPPOSITES right!?

I am crazayyyy!

We had these left over from a work project, so I could get these babies at cost. BUT the Blackamoor sconces aren't that expensive either...

I would have to get a super modern, slick mirror if I went the Blackamoor route... and if I went with the chrome guys I could probably keep the gilded over the top mirror we currently have.

And, come on people, tell me truthfully - are the Blackamoors kinda racist?? I don't think so but I wouldn't want to offend anyone! And right after I fell in love with them, we saw Django and the movie is filled with Blackamoors in plantation homes with the little guys holding COTTON!! Then I thought... uhhhohhhhh.... this may not be kosher to put these up!

So.... to make a long post short... I think I may have to go with the chrome guys. Right?!

Tell me your thoughts.

Hello 2013!!! And a sneak peek in the bathroom reno!

HELLLLOOOOOOO 2013!!!!

Can you believe our bathroom is STILL not finished!!???? AHHHHHH!!! It's almost there... just needs a little thing called electricity and we are DONE! My dad's doing the lighting so I'm not nagging him too much on when he'll do it - he is free after all!!

But here's a little peek at the custom sink installed! I LOVE IT!!!! It makes me oh so happy. Especially once all the crap you see around it leaves! But just wanted to share with you the progress!

Also, Boo got a new Iphone with a working camera so I plan on blogging more in 2013 too! :)
