Before & After... Kitchen

Our kitchen is kinda gross... but coming from tiny apartments my whole adult life we were just happy to have a DISHWASHER and (some) COUNTER SPACE! The previous owners installed the lovely flooring wrong and now it buckles... but I am not about to rip it out and start over with this "temporary" kitchen!

So here's what it looked like when we were moving in!

BEFORE:

The kitchen does not get that much light, so I knew I wanted to paint it white (are you surprised by this point?!) There is not much we did design wise - I just wanted to clean it up a bit and make it more enjoyable to cook in there!

Below is the lovely plywood wall concealing the renovation going on in the room next door. It is going to be so great when we can finally remove that thing!

The beginning of trying to paint over forest green! Why oh why did every color in the house have to be so dark?! SUCH A PAIN TO PAINT OVER!!

AFTER:

We inherited a super old and scary gas stove so we replaced that with a Craigslist find!

We installed the shelving next to the stove to house items we use most when cooking.

We really did not do much, just painted it white to lighten the space. It definitely feels cleaner.

Although we still have these awful floors... you can't really see in this picture but trust me, they are BAD!

Exciting Demo Today!

I know it's not much, but today my brother is taking out part of a wall that has been bothering my from day 1! It's only about 1' wide but it's a wall that leads into a hall so it makes a big difference.

Here he is investigating how the beam is held up there.

Then he realizes this will be annoying...

But I leave for one hour and come back to see this!

It's gone!! Now that the 1' wall is out we just may be able to do a turned staircase after all!

Road (Ferry) Trip! - Algiers Point...

The other day we took the ferry over to Algier's Point on the West Bank from downtown New Orleans. I definitely recommend going if you enjoy architecture, great city views and just doing something different! (Plus the ferry is FREE!)

The neighborhood is actually the second oldest in New Orleans - it was settled in the 1720's! So of course there are some great houses to see. Here are some highlights from the trip:

Views of Downtown New Orleans:

Pretty Pelican...

Houses that caught my eye...

Detailed shot:

A Creole Cottage kind of similar to ours!

Crazy BIG tree!

This house below was interesting... looks like they took a 50's style brick house and tried to transform it into... well, I am not quite sure!?

How sweet is this little shotgun?! I fell in love with it! Trailer parks should take note from these little guys...

Some houses reminded me of what we see in the Bywater but it is much more conservative on the other side of the river! NO crazy colored homes here!
