Just some rotten siding...

How could you not want this house?! - kidding. Luckily for us it scared everyone else away - I'm beginning to wonder if we should of been scared off too?! To make a long story short, rotten siding was to be removed by our contractor and replaced. No big deal right? Then they found TERMITES and a rotten foundation. Fun. Fun. So a simple repair went from this:
To this:
AAAHHHHH!!! Everything got ripped out. It's actually a blessing in disguise though. We were now able to knock down that center wall and make this one large 22'6" x 12' room. We also decided to put in a door and a new window. - more on that later!

A house like that does have a lot of potential, if you can put the time and effort to it. Like you said, the damage and termites could be seen as a blessing in disguise since you can make that room you want to do. Lots of sidings will be installed, so it'll be good as new!

I think one of the main reasons why your siding was damaged is because of rainwater. Did you install gutters on that side of the wall? Now that you’re onto renovating the whole wall, I suggest you have one placed to keep your sidings protected against constant rainfall. You can also install a porch or an overhang on the window to keep the rainwater from getting in.

Great! The replacement of the siding had turned into more challenging work, and somehow along the way, it became more of a renovation of that part of that house. But in the end, it definitely was a good thing seeing as how you were somehow able to hit two birds with one stone! It’s fortunate that you were able to spot the termite infestation there. I’m glad you had a contractor to deal with everything that had to be done. I agree with Tisa. You should have a gutter or porch to protect your siding from rotting.
